The e-commerce giant has announced its investment in a prefabricated homes startup.
On September 25 Amazon announced it had invested in the California-based company Plant Prefab, leader in the production of prefabricated homes and emerging player in home manufacturing. The funds received by Alexa Fund, born to increase the market of Amazon’s voice technology services, are aimed at integrating the suite of voice control devices into the housing market.
Amazon is already investing in numerous areas of smart home development
In this regard, it must be said that Amazon has recently broadened the range of devices compatible with its personal assistant Alexa, including cameras, speakers, security systems and microwaves. Over the past few months, the e-commerce company had already acquired two other companies - Ring and Blink- specialized in technology for smart homes.
Now the group led by Jeff Bezos will work with Plant Prefab to integrate smart technologies directly into homes. The investment in Plant Prefab is not odd, as the latter is the first American company dedicated to building smart custom homes using sustainable materials, processes and operations.
The Californian startup’s mission, as stated on its website, is that of “making it easy to build custom homes that are healthy, sustainable, and durable”. The homes built by Plan Prefab are both single and multifamily and from the United Stated they guarantee they will “empower individuals, architects, and small developers who want to build their own projects – and who want an efficient and reliable solution. And peace of mind during the process.”.*
For now we can only wait and see what the future of living has in hold for us, but in the meantime we must take notice of how the behemoths are moving more and more towards a diversification of the market and especially home automation.
