The role of Fondazione Promozione Acciaio in enhancing the quality of the construction product

Made in Steel, the event dedicated to the entire steel supply chain in Southern Europe from May 14 to 16 at the Fiera Milano Rho, closed a few days ago.

As stated by Emanuele Morandi, president and CEO of Made in Steel:

Steel is undergoing a delicate moment of change, with some key end-user sectors, such as construction and automotive, in difficulty and the global closing of markets. One of Made in Steel’s tasks, in this situation, is also this: talking to the steel industry so that the market becomes a place for relations, meeting and exchange of information.

The event was a true “square”, a space for in-depth study and reflection on important issues such as innovation and sustainability, the engines of the worldwide steel industry of the future.

Fondazione Promozione Acciaio, the cultural institution that promotes the development of steel buildings and infrastructure in Italy, also took part in Made in Steel.

The presence of Fondazione Promozione Acciaio at Made in Steel provided the opportunity to meet the productive excellence, dialog and interact on the evolution and needs of the industry. An opportunity to create a network, share the cultural mission of the Fondazione and the activities offered by it: the development of a technical standardization to favor the innovation of the steel sector, training activities, technical and legal assistance and specialized updating dedicated to operators in the sector.

What Fondazione Promozione Acciaio is and does

Fondazione Promozione Acciaio (FPA) was born in 2005 to actively contribute to innovation and the competitiveness of the construction sector, spreading and emphasizing the design and technological-building aspects that differentiate metal carpentry from other construction systems, aiming at a progressive quality enhancement of the building product with clear benefits for safety and the rationalization of costs.

The activity of the Fondazione is based on promoting the culture of steel buildings, supporting clients, training and collaborating with designers, spreading the advantages and performances of the material,  showing steel as a tool for an innovative, rational and safe construction.

In particular, FPA provides free technical, scientific and legal support to those who are already developing and designing buildings in metal carpentry, and it is also committed to developing a technical standardization favoring innovation and competitiveness in the sector in Italy and in Europe. Aside from the support and activities aimed at a technical and legal development, the institution is engaged in editorial and communication activities and carries out numerous training activities to increase the knowledge of steel design.

Some examples of this intense activity are the design manuals, the magazine Architettura in Acciaio [Steel Architecture], the 160 training days provided every year involving 4,000 professionals and the participation in the most important events in the world of construction, from SAIE in Bari, to Edilitaly in Rome to MADE Expo in Milan.

One figure especially clarifies the activity carried out by FPA and the supply chain involved, in fact in Italy from 2005 to 2015, the steel market went from 18% to 33%, also showing the large investment in innovation and sustainability. Furthermore, with the solution presented at MADE, the “house of steel construction” the institution pointed out even more that steel must not be intended only as a material for major projects, but for all constructions, even in the residential sector.
